This from Harry Kane...
As the UK is threatened by yet another major storm overnight, thoughts are with all those working to keep the network open and passengers and freight on the move.
This week’s severe disruption of course serves to remind us all of the critical role that railways play in the national economy, as well as to the country's well being.
Something that Robin Gisby no doubt highlighted at COBRA this week, under the agenda item ‘Money No Object’.

Gideon strikes!
So farewell iDave!
Your time has come, and gone.
For some of us, not a moment too soon.
And who wielded the knife?
Why, officials in the department of your best friend - Gideon George Osborne!
Or so we are led to believe by Wednesday's FT, which suggests that notoriously competent "senior Treasury officials" are looking to cape HS2 in favour of more roads.
Happily, it looks like constituencies in the Chilterns will get all that they wished for and possibly deserve (sic).
Meanwhile, which way will the ever loyal Patrick McLoughlin jump?
For Eton or St Paul's?
UPDATE: HS2 Comes out fighting!
This from HS2's 'Project Manager for Ambassadors and Advocates' (who knew? Ed)...
The FT piece represents nothing more than nonsense scare mongering re: HS2:
- The project has wide political support across the country
- Any cost increases as a result of adding VAT are returned to government - the true cost remains the same
- All at HS2 and our supporters recognise the importance of controlling costs and the necessity of continuing to delivering this vital piece of infrastructure on time and on budget
Errr... that'll certainly tell them!

Greater Anglia - We're all in it together!
This gem from the Ipswich Star...
The Prime Minister ditched his train at Manningtree yesterday amid fears engineering work would push his schedule off track.
Mr Cameron jumped off the train into waiting cars in the
Essex town as he rushed to deliver a keynote speech in Suffolk’s county
town fearing overhead line work at Needham Market would create
congestion at Ipswich station.
Eye wonders if he used Mr Toad's motor, which is no doubt on stand-by at his Chelmsford constituency?

Cameron burnt by King's Place finest
Oh dear.
Looks like Network Rail will be off iDave's Christmas Card list.
The Prime Minister, keen to get back on the front foot over Gideon's disastrous Pie-Tax, offered the Beeb the following wibble:
The PM continued: "I am a pasty eater myself, I go to Cornwall on holiday, I love a hot pasty.
"I think the last one I bought was from the West Cornwall Pasty Company. I seem to remember I was in Leeds station at the time and the choice was whether to have one of their small ones or large ones, and I have a feeling I opted for the large one and very good it was too."
Alas.
@NetworkRailPR was obliged to point out:
For the record: West Cornwall Pasty Co vacated Leeds Stn 31/3/2007. However, Cornish Bakehouse was open there until last week (23/3/2012)
Either way, both retail outlets have now closed.
Back to the VAT free Caviar, eh Dave?
