It's cold Carruthers, damned cold!

I thought that Railway Eye readers would like an exclusive and sneak preview of Network Rail's latest offering.

This is their new mobile loading gauge to stop 9ft 6in containers entering Standedge Tunnel (Marsden) today.



As the bridges haven't been painted since steam days don't expect any rapid response from NR in this area!

To ask Her Majesty's Government further to the Written Answer by Baroness Royall of Blaisdon on 30 November (WA 8), how many civil servants have been seconded to the transport industries in 2008 and 2009.

The number of civil servants seconded or on loan to the transport industries* in 2008 and 2009 totals 21, comprising the following breakdown:

* Transport-related policy areas within UK government departments and their executive agencies, the European Commission, the United States, Australian and Nigerian Government departments.

Expect a dramatic deterioration in relations with several of our former closest allies.
